gcarroll's 260g SPS reef

Unfortunately not. The sump was delayed to ship out in January so I think I may get my 25g out of storage. I want to do something but really can until I know what I'm working with.
More importantly.... did that smoker get any good usage this holiday season?

As a matter of fact...

That looks almost exactly like our Christmas Eve dinner, minus the rosemary. Never been a fan of that! Looks fantastic though!

Well guys sorry for the delay but I am experiencing technical difficulties. They have crated up my sump and it is being loaded in the container, I expect the sump in approximately 3 weeks. In the meantime, I am getting really anxious, so I decided to set up a 25g nano.

25g Vitrea tank, Radion XR30 pro.

I love the stand with the glass doors and frosted glass accents.

Ahh some update atlast !!! The container would take 3 weeks ???

Anyways, whats the plan for the nano ?

Also with the 260, do you plan to get all aquacultured frags of acros to start with or you would go towards wild and maricultured colonies from the beginning ?

Regards,
Abhishek

The original plan was for everything going in the 260 gallon to be frags and captive raised. I’m sure you know how easy it is to stick to a plan in this hobby. It’s always nice every now and then to pick up a brown out and see what becomes of it.

I was kind of thinking of going with all softies on the nano. Of course, with the amount of light I have a mixed reef (montis but no acros) is looking more and more likely. I could always use it as a feeder tank to the 260 gallon. Starting the corals there.

I love the idea of brown turning beauties that you pay penny compared to what we have to pay nowadays for signature frags . Its even better when those brown ones become signature ones .
Was your Acroberry and Efflo from the LFS brown bins ? I hope you get some browns and turn them into classic ones like the past .

Honestly I would love to do it , but am just a sissy having my old tank wiped out by AEFW .

I love the idea of a monti only small nano tank especially with nice encrusting ones and growing them there before moving to the big butt 260 gal where they wont get lost . Allows you to QT them for any pests and algae too !!

Abhishek

Acrboberry, Lime in the Sky, Ultimate blue stag, and the Ultimate efflo, all came in the first few shipments from Bali when the first reopened. They were all small wild colonies before they began aquaculturing. I got them from a small wholesaler who would sell their leftovers at the end of the week. They couldn’t keep SPS very long so I probably paid $30 apt $45 depending on how long they sat. That was before the practice of hacking maricultured colonies pretending they are rare. Here is SoCal is is very rare to find someone willing to sell colonies and that includes wholesaler.

Hopefully this time you would get a few leftovers and someday I can travel to SoCal to get your leftovers :D

I hardly follow or comment in others' build threads but am just really excited for this one . Some of my old classic favorites are from your tank and am excited to see what you will do with Radion G4s and all the bells and whistles of today's technology . First Sanjay and now you moving to Radion G4s.
Depending on how it performs with you too I might have a new light for the summer to replace my 14K halides. Its either that or a Teco TK chiller and wife is definitely not happy with the later one .

I finished the plumbing and added the Radion diffuser. I’m hoping to have water in the nano this weekend. I was really shocked at how much more spread you get with the diffuser. I would have never noticed had it not been comparing these two photos.

Wow, that is one of the best examples of the features of the Ecotech diffuser. I was sceptical about it, but read and see more and more positive comments. Thanks for sharing.
Would this mean that the Radions could be placed closer to the water level?
