What is the smell from silicone - acetic acid? Why is uncured silicone bad for the livestock? How long is fine to submerse silicone (not pressure related)

I siliconed two square mirrors together so i can tame the agression if my yellow tang (i added two small brown tangs). I siliconed them together because i dont want the reflective part getting in the water since its aluminum or silver.

I would wait atleast 12 hours to cure but it depends on bead size. Hopefully you didn't make my mistake and use the mold inhibitor one!
Wow that wouldn't be a happy day. As far as i know its the type one. Its been drying now for 18 hours.

Usually mirrors are placed on the outside of the tank...

Curing: Depending on what type of silicone, it either releases ammonia or acetic acid (vinegar). I would let it cure much longer than 12 hours.

My tank isnt made of glass lol. Its a reef pond. My 220 glass cracked. I bought a pond now they live there.

The blue tube is ok (original)
The red equals DEAD
But why risk it? Just go buy aquarium silicone from lfs
Nice ryme. Yeah its the blue tube. Fairly certain its aquarium safe.

wow, got a pic of the pond? that sounds like an awesome thing to have, imagine it being full of clams!

Not right now and im at work. Its not an outdoor pond because I live in Canada but in my basement lol. I enjoy it. It even has a huge carlson surge which makes waves and a surge in it. 45 gallons dumps in 7 seven seconds. Just need to put up a few palm trees and sprinkle beach sand on the floor lol.

yes, the smell is acetic acid.

Yes i agree. I think ill wait at least 24 hours.
I used to build my own tanks for dart frogs and used the silicone I for all of them. Seals, seams, backgrounds were all ge and I had no issues, but I usually waited a week before adding anything. I think that might be the most popular one being used. You might be good in 24 hours, but stretch it out if you can.
