So I am getting ready to build a 15 gallon frag tank that will be used just for frag swaps. Do you guys and gals think that the ge silicone I will be strong enough to hold? Dimensions are 24"x18"x8".

I was getting ready to slap this together right this instant but wanted to see what ppl thought first. Hopefully soon since I kind of need to get this project done.

Thanks guys
George

No problems. I have used it on everything from 10 to 300 gallon tanks never a problem. Just make sure your bonding edges are 100% clean.

Excellent, that is what I always thought as well. Glass was cut by a reputable company and edges are nice and clean. Thanks for the reassurance!!!

Oh lol. Yea I do that always as well. Thanks again

I certainly would not say that it won’t work, but my preference for building a tank would be one of the RTV silicones (103 or 108.) They have greater bond strength….act more like an adhesive than a caulk.

I have use GE Silicone I on numerous baffles in sumps with great success. But the stresses on a baffle is considerably less than the seam of a tank.

Thanks for your input redfish. And I do agree, but I was in a bind and this was the silicone that was readily available.

For a 15g tank I think you will be fine. But the RTV does hold much better and if you ever build a little bit bigger tank, spend the extra $5 and get the RTV silicone. I'm stating a 4' x 18" x 14" frag tank and I'm using the RTV.

GE I has made alot of huge tanks, its more than enough for what your buiulding. No worries.

Hey reefing madness, nice to see you over here too.

I agree that ge1 would work just fine for this size of tank. But as already mentioned, the momentive rtv 100 series is a better adhesive.
