Gem tang emergency

Are you absolutely sure of your copper levels? Check out this thread. @HotRocks
Have you checked the parameters in your water? pH Ammonia, etc Temp, salinity?
Any other fish in with him?
When did it start showing symptoms?
do you have adequate oxygenation? Size of tank, etc.

From what I understand - 2.46 is nearing a high level (though it seems to be recommended by the manufacturer) - but if your test is off - it could have been toxic. Curious - why did you lower the dose to 2.08.

I lowered the copper as a precaution. When he looked bad and stopped eating. Thought it may be to high for him. I have a 2in at the most blue tang in with him doing great. And a small pair of clowns that also look bad now. Whiteish on the body. Doesn’t look like velvet though. I just did a fresh water 5 min dip on the gem and clowns. Added furan 2 and Kanaplex. Maybe it’s bacterial. There in a 29 qt tank. Ammonia badge and the usual setup I run for qt. I’ve dealt with plenty of things but haven’t seen this.

Well I tried to tag Hotrocks - will try some others - @4FordFamily, @Brew12, @ngoodermuth, @Humblefish - who are more expert than I - I'm not sure the reefsquad tag works yet?

Could it be brooklynella?

The reason I ran my copper close to 2.5 is because velvet survived at 1.75 and wiped my tank out. Lost over 2k in fish. Can’t do it again. I ran bleach , rinsed let dry out and rinsed again running prime. All qt tanks before starting over.

Gem tang seems to be in trouble. If you have another tang doing seemingly well I doubt the copper had anything to do with it. I am thinking it may be brook. It can have an impact on tangs but doesn’t always. Whatever the case May be I would assume it to be something that isn’t treated with copper.

Should I add GC to the mix? Besides copper power there is now furan2 and kanaplex in the water. I have water made up for any bacteria blooms that pop up. Thank you for the help guys.. I’m stressing

Do you have metro on hand?

I don’t. Should I not add the GC and order metro? I have amazon prime
Yes.

Sorry for the trouble. In the first couple of pics it looks like an infection discoloring on the fish, perhaps even internal. The fish also looks quite emaciated in the pics.

I did add GC last night. It was quite thin when I got it but was eating. I got it for $399 from NYaquatics. Maybe it wasn’t such a great deal. I’m praying he makes it.

It’s a good deal if the fish eats. With thin fish I feed as much as they’ll eat for several days. If they don’t eat you know you’ll be in trouble unfortunately. Sorry for the loss!
