The broker would have the import paperwork for customs.

I'm trying to get a stock list also. He says either line up a broker or if you have the paperwork it would be picked up at airport. I'm working on a broker now.

Maybe a group buy on Gem Tangs???

Well this has at least been a glimpse into how the market works. Wholesale goes through all this paperwork for an $800 dollar fish. Then marks up for profit/loss coverage. Now enters lfs which work on the condition of the animal. They mark up for profit/loss and a $800 dollar fish becomes $2000.

That's a butterfly fish that is one of the hardiest to get to eat in captivity.

I worked for a wholesaler in the past and would import roughly 20 boxes of fish a week. Typically a broker is only needed if the value is over $2,000.00. That may have changed. As far as pricing and mark up goes: a 20 box order cost roughly 2 grand for the fish but an additional 2,500 for the freight. That doubles the cost of the fish but then you have to factor in DOA's and fish that die within a week. Also, you have to cover the overhead. The electric bill (close to 30,000 gallons of systems) was around 10 grand a month! Before freight I would pay $.07 for a Green Chromis.
