General q about Dosing Pump - specific probably Jebao DP4

I have general question about dosing pump ... if we are to go specific, model is Jebao DP4.

I intend to dose via Jebao DP4 to sump.

My question is: does the dosing pump need to be at a higher level than the sump for it to work properly?

I don't intend to purchase the bracket (if I don't need to) and the plan was just to put it on a coffee table beside the sump. Will this work?

Will it lose against the gravity and not dose?

It will have a max head pressure - or lift; and hopefully it's in the manual - but it should handle most common scenarios.

You may have to make accommodations - check valves - to prevent gravity siphoning. Mine doesn't, but it's not an uncommon occurrence with this style of pump - good to be aware of.

Apology for this next stupid question, apparently it's 0.5m head height. What does that mean?

Does it mean the pump need to be in the elevation range of 0.5m to the dosing containers?

Or does it mean the dosing pump need to be in the elevation range of 0.5m to the sump?

Or both?

Sometimes it'll specify both, but it could be a combined total.

A headloss calculator might give you an idea what to expect from a given setup (without going to the troubler of testing it) but the calculators are usually built for standard plumbing.

Dosing into a sump it should be higher but you can use a inline check valve on the output line of the pump. While pumps may hold pressure they sometimes leak back thru the line. So by using a check valve you stop any back siplon. An you also keep the fluid output line full so it is easier to dose the tank.
