[h=2]build a tank from the ground up[/h]
Howdy, I have posted a few questions in the form so fare, well here come some more. I don't have a lot of money to build out my 135 gallon tank. I am in the DIY process of a sump and tank stand. I finally pick up a protein skimmer, heck not sure I even needed one just yet. I am buying used thing wherever I can to cut cost. So here comes my questions 1. for a 135 gallon tank I am looking to turn over the water about 1500 gp,h so I think it will drop to about 1300-1400 is that enough for fish and soft corals? 2. with my sump how big should the refugem be? 3. My sump is 35.6 gallons, will that be enough for a 135 gallon tank? 4. as stated above I have a skimmer thatis for a 150 gallon tank max, it will be in my sump, so does the volume of water going into the skimmer increase the filtered amount of water? I hope my question are not confusing and thanks for the help.

you can always supplement flow with powerheads, as big of a refugium as you can have and still fit all your equipment in the sump still, as big of a tank as you can fit under the stand. i think the slower you can have the water run through the skimmer the better it skims. if you have too much flow the skimmer doesnt have enough time to skim through all the water because its going through too fast. the skimmer should be rated as to how much water it skims an hour

I wouldn't worry about how much gallons of water run through your tank, you may want more smaller ones or bigger ones (pumps, Powerheads...)Depends on what coral or anemone you have? More flow for some and less for other. That being said, think about what you want, where you want it and don't forget lighting! Some love intense light with low flow and others vise versa :)
