Generators

Most people don’t have the room to store that much gasoline. In many places inside storage of that much wouldn’t even be legal. Either way turning over that much gas would be too much work for most. 15% better run times on gasoline may not be worth it when I can store a 500 or 1000 kB propane tank underground indefinitely. The best of both worlds are the dual fuel gasoline/propane generators. Burn what you have. No muss no fuss.
I have a 500 gallon above ground tank. It's plenty big enough for my generator. But you have to have room for one and depending on local codes that can be a problem. A buddy of mine had his put into the ground. Pretty neat setup. You don't even know it's there.

Chances are if your power is out then the switch box down the road won’t have power either so kiss the internet goodbye unless you hotspot your phone

After a couple of hurricanes in Florida we had no cell service either cause the power to the cell towers was knocked out too
I am not a smart man. lol

I have a small 1Kw 2-cycle generator that is specifically for my tanks. It cost me all of $90 on sale (reg. $135). It will run for 7-8 hours on a 1/2 gallon of mixed gas. I can also run my fridge off of it as long as I only have my main pump on the tank connected as well. It's small and really light weight too. Probably only tips the scales at 35 pounds so even my wife can move it if needed. Best little purchase I made for the house.

The only problem with portable generators is you have to be there to plug them in. What if you are at work or gone for the weekend? I bit the bullet and got the whole house automatic gen. Lots of bucks but the peace of mind is real nice. Where I live we get power outages throughout the year, and sometimes for several days. Peace of mind. . . .

Are you running any type of UPS to cover the 10 sec or so it takes for the unit to kick on? I have an automatic whole house as well but no UPS. I want to get one just to keep the pump and lights from shutting down and then starting up. One of my Hydras quit working because of it.

Been thinking about it. Especially since we get a lot of "flutters" during storms. One thing I did extra though was to add a whole house surge protector. Cheap compared to the cost of a tv, DC pump, SB Reeflight Ultra, etc. that could get "surged" into oblivion.

Been researching this myself, my house used to get flutters quite frequently. Call the electric company and say it happens with or without storms and the will update and secure your line to the road so it won’t happen anymore. Also haven’t heard much talk about harbor freights new predator line. I think that’s where I’m going. Most online vids have it side by side with Honda and the noise level is the same and they seem quality.

I have also heard good things of the Predator. Will also be checking. If you get information let me know.

I used a buddies predator 2kw last year camping, ran all weekend running ac and fridge, no issues, quiet and reviews are very good, I would suggest to a potential buyer for sure.

Doh... [emoji1] been a rough week.

I got the 7500.
That one is hard to say. It does have AVR but I'm thinking it isn't a very good form of it. They state THD is less than 23% so it "could" be ok. It is best to have a THD of under 6% although normally up to 10% is fine for electronics. Modern Generac units claim a THD of under 5% by comparison.

hey I love my camper and don't care to sleep on the ground anymore, a/c is only used for while sleeping anyways. fyi not getting defensive, haha. I didn't go to the extreme and get the luxury camper with satellite, tv and couch's, its just small enough to keep me outside when its nice and big enough to get out of the rain.

I wasn't saying anything was wrong with it either;);)

Would be the only way I would as well:):)

I've been using a generator for power outages for more than 20 years and I find that having one with a large tank, or multiple tanks is a very important tool.
I can't imagine the panic that could set in when the power goes out and not having a way to keep my reef tanks going.
One other thing that IMO is just as important to have with a generator is a dedicated circuit box like a Gentran.

Or transfer switch, in an Apt like me its not an option but when I had my house in IA its nice to have a gen when power goes out from ice storm even if you don't have a tank, keep the heat on and a couple lights. maybe even ability to take a hot shower.

The predator is the same unit as the Wen unit. Just a different color.
