Generic UV Sterilizer

Coralife Biocube 32. Instead of getting their in line UV sterilizer, wouldn't a simple submersible clear UV light work? The water needs to be lit up, that's it, right? I mean, I could, I wouldn't , toss some LEDs into a test tube, make it submersible and it would work, yes?

I believe it is far more complicated then that. The amount of light intensity and contact time require a complex combination that most hobby grade UV sterilizers don’t achieve

If you are going to run s uv sterilizer run one that will work. Aqua or Emperor Aquatics. Anything else is a waste of cash

I've been reading reviews on generic, clear submersible UV lamps that go in the sump, filter or back of an AIO. i believe they do work as clarifiers to kill bloom causing bacteria and free algae spores in the water column. I doubt they do any true sterilization though.
