I currently have one female Watanabei that is doing amazing. I've had her for about six months and I've been looking for a reasonably priced male. Unfortunately I haven't had any luck. Today I came across a female at a LFS that looks very healthy. My question is can I get one of them to turn male if I put two females together? Also the last thing I want to do is stress out my current female so is it a bad idea to add another one after the other one has been alone so long?

I was thinking of going back tomorrow and getting her.

It depends on your tank size and the size of the one you have compared to the one you want. In a six' tank you should be ok and hopefully the new one is significantly smaller. If so use a social acclimation box for introduction.

Thanks for the feedback! The new one would actually be the bigger one. Is that a problem?

Sorry, just saw this. It is possible it will work. I would still use a social acclimation box for introduction. It would have been preferable if the sizes were reversed, but may still work.

Thank you again. I fought the temptation to buy her today, but may go back tomorrow.
