GEO Skimmer: white elephant but how does it work

I have a custom one-off GEO skimmer that I bought used. The original pump was inop. so the seller bought a Sedra KSP 15000 and hooked it up as the old one was, but did not have the Venturi. I know so little, so i am looking for advice as to whether I can get this operational. When I get it the Venturi it will be attached to the vertical below the pump, (intake). Does this look like it is an internal or external skimmer? There is a hose attached to the side of the body that probably fits on the venturi indicating that it is possibly a submerged pump. Would that mean that only one of the uniseals should be attached from the pump to the body? Or, could it be using the other small hose fitting (black plastic, above the level of the pump) for the skimmer inlet? Geosreef said it was an old unit that was not production so no records of instructions or set up. So I come to the mountain seeking wisdom. thanks, David

Hi, hope all is well.

Sorry about the delay. I was actually looking at this the other day trying to figure it out. Like you said it’s a recirculating skimmer but the pump has no venturi.

I wasn’t sure, have you ordered the part you need and not sure how to set it up? Or do we need to locate a Venturi and set up the plumbing?

I am having Marine Depot contact the pump supplier for the venturi since ASM Lax does not do retail. I should have it soon. I don't understand how the dirty water gets into the chamber. i guess any help figuring out how to use this would be appreciated. i thought that maybe the small black fitting could be the inlet if another pump was supplying it. or if the chamber was inside the sump the pump could be turned to be supply instead of a circulating pump.
The problem, as I see it, is that I have this thing that might be a skimmer if i could figure out how to plumb it.

Ok if I am looking at this right . It is not a recirculating skimmer . The pump outlet goes in the bottom hole marked 1 and the water being pumped into the skimmer is marked 2

so that is for the 5000 i need one for the KSP 15000 which might be the same part but might not be looking for
ASM-SED15000-16 which Premium Aquatics does not list

as it sits the intake for the pump is #1 and is coming from the skimmer;
the output of the pump is going into the skimmer at #2

I found this old picture of one kinda like yours

this looks nearly identical it pulls from the bottom uniseal past the union through the elbow through a venturi and into the pump, through a needle wheel out of the pump top which is facing toward the skimmer and back into the chamber. the upper valve (above the pump) is different than mine and is probably the water inflow from the tank?

You might want to find an old Eheim ext skimmer pump. They do come up for sale usually on the cheap but they are anything but cheap when new. Some pumps can be run externally and some cannot, that you need to figure out exactly what kind of pump you have.

thanks, I believe the pump I have can be used as either submersed or external.it is a sedra KSP 15000; 1500 gph 19' max head pump, it is used on the ASM G4 type skimmer

I believe that you are correct, one thing do not soak the impeller in vinegar, use Citrus Acid. Vinegar is a Sedra and Danner killer.

thanks. i am on the citric acid train. for everything plastic or rubber. including any iterations of those words. cleans glass well, thats about all it is safe for,(windows silly)
