Who here has a geometric Pygmy hawkfish? I got one a few months ago and, although I never see it eat, it is doing well. Here is a pic of mine that I captured the other night under flashlight lighting.

I don't have one, but I'm going to follow along as I'd potentially like to add one to my tank.

Do you have inverts with it?

Beautiful fish by the way!!

I had one that I lost back when I was moving the 90, years ago. Mine would always come out to eat, but they are pretty cryptic. I could easily see one hanging in the rocks during feeding.

Do you have many big fish? Sometimes the activity of big fish at feeding time will make the little guys hide. Keep an eye on his gut and if he starts looking like he's lonsig weight, start to worry, but as long as he is otherwise acting normally and has some weight he is fine. Yours looks healthy to me [emoji4]

I've found them to be fine with almost all inverts. I never tried keeping reeeeeallllly small stuff like sexy shrimp with them, though.

Haha sexy shrimp are what I'm really hoping to add. Maybe I'll establish a little colony of the shrimp and then take a gamble with the fish later.

Every other fish in the tank is larger than this little guy. It never comes out to eat with the frenzy but I see it during dawn and dusk times searching for food. As of now it's gut is plump so it must be able to find some kind of food.

I just got one two days ago. I saw it eat frozen Mysis at the store, but so far it hasn’t eaten in my tank. It’s the first fish in a 10 gallon nuvo. It definitely perks up when I feed but I don’t know if it has actually eaten.

Mine was like that at the start and took him a while to feel confident enough to eat, mine was safe with sexy shrimp, but they did disappear but I doubt it was the hawkfish, as I don't think they got enough to eat

If he still doesn't eat maybe live brine shrimp might entice him to eat or live mysis , I think I've read live copepods too in the water column

Hasn’t eaten yet, but seems otherwise healthy and actually active for a perching fish. How long should I wait before trying live (live food won’t be easy to find here). The tank has a pod population so at least there is that.

What is strange is I saw her eat frozen shrimp (I think Mysis) in the store! I wonder if her being the only fish is an issue, and if getting another fish that will “teach” her to eat would help.

And just to add that when I feed frozen Mysis her behavior really changes, she becomes more active - swimming a bit in the water and just looking very attentive. And yet I don’t see her eat!

She doesn't look skinny, maybe the mysis shrimp is too Big for her mouth if she's small could be a reason, tho mine can eat very big pieces but just suggesting, and I think another fish would help her eat as it may act like a dither fish and give her confidence to come out and eat, maybe a dartfish?

Thanks- at the LFS she ate a pretty big Mysis shrimp piece I think. But I got frozen Mysis and brine I’ll try the brine tonight and see!
