I got my first ever calcium reactor. I filled it up to leak test it not long after I got it and the circulation pump would cavitate from the air built up in the reactor. The reactor is fed by a masterflex pump. I ran the masterflex on high to bleed the air out but it just built back up.

Does the media release a lot of air when it's new? Should I run the feed pump for a week or so when I first full it up before I turn on the circulation pump.

Following. I have a Geo 618 arriving in the mail tomorrow. Also my first ever. Also using a masterflex.

Are you pulling effluent through the top effluent line, or pushing it through the feed line?

Did you ensure to run the feed pump full blast and get a steady stream running through it before turning on the circulation pump? Again I haven't set mine up yet but in reading the manual online it sounds like the only reason air will accumulate at the top and break the circulation is if the effluent is too low based on how much co2 you're injecting, or it is sucking in air from a leak somewhere

Well my CO2 wasn't even hooked up so its not me injecting too much. The reactor is set up for me to push water through I guess. If you look at the first pic I had the masterflex hooked to the clear tubing coming out of the right side and the effluent being pushed out is the black line on the left.

If I wanted to pull rather than push for the effluent how would I accomplish that?

Everything I've read says its best to pull with a masterflex rather than push due to their high torque levels they can force a leak. You'd run the masterflex off the top tube/effluent (black tube) and just put the intake (clear) tube in the tank or sump submerged and it'll suck water through it rather than push water through it

Wait, so the reactor isnt being fed or is it? Does the air have some way to escape the reactor? What I would do is get the feed pump going and open the reactor all the way up. Try and flush any pockets of air out. Then, turn on the circulation pump to push all the built up air around the rocks out. Then, try an dial it in.

Update. I hooked the CO2 up to the reactor and have been running it for this week. I changed the orientation so that I am pulling water through the reactor through the upper most line meant to be the effluent line. I shook the reactor with circulation pump off to get as much air out as I could. I ran the masterflex on high while doing that. Then I started the circulation pump and purged some more air for a while and then turned on the CO2. It runs almost bubble free for a day or so and then it slowly builds up more and more air inside the reactor. The pump is constantly sucking air through it now and making the moaning noise that it does when it's pumping a small percentage of air along with the liquid. I'm worried that it's slowly going to get worse and worse and eventually be sucking in enough air to kill the flow of water through the reactor and burn up the pump.

How can I find where the air is getting in? Do I need to switch it back to pushing water through it and use soapy water on the fittings?

Also when I go to purge more air out while the circulation pump is running I see a curtain of continuous bubbles rising through the reactor. Like 20x more than when I am running it at its normal rate

Just trying to see f you ever solved this problem.. Im having the same problem for a year but I literally suck the air out once a day to remedy it.. Did you switch from pulling to pushing? was there a leak
