I have my German blue for over 6 months now and only get the blue at the tips. It is about 10" directly under my 259w halide so light shouldn't be an issue. Everything is growing great! Parameters are as follows:
Salinity-1.024
PH-8.2
Ammonia-0
Nitrites-0
Nitrates-5-10
Phosphates-.1
Calcium-480
Alk-10

I call it the German brown Digi. I'm not a fan it's a pretty ugly coral.

Mine looks just like yours... I can't get it to color up either, no matter what I do. Oh well I guess...

The only time I saw it colored up the way it was supposed to be was in a 800 gallon total system with 400W MH's over it.

I've never seen these have great color to begin with. It's a brown coral which Blue actinics or LED's shimmer blue off the polyps.

Well makes me feel a bit better that it's not just me ;). That does look purplish but that's what I thought I was getting lol. You use any supplements or anything?

I don't think that's the same coral, the base on the German blue polyp isn't blue or purple, only the polyps are. What is your alk at and is it stable? I've had this coral before and I've had some nice blue polyps on it but once I started to have some fluctuations I lost the color and never got it back.

I have seen this coral in many tanks, and only two of them did the coral look really blue and not brown. A local reefer and CUNAREEFER on here (check it out in his FS thread). I have it on top of one of my pillars and I get blue polyps, but the brown is still dominant. Sad that this ugly brown coral is a main colony taking up the top of the pillar. Not good thinking on my part.

Have one under radion g2 5 inches away. Never colored up, great growth, no color.

Yeah I am getting great growth out of it as I bought them as 1" frags and now they're close to 3" tall and spreading out really well ... Just no darn color!

Contrary to most of my digis, the German Blue polyp seemed to color up best in high lighting. I kept mine about 4 inches from the top of the tank with about 500w of LED and 500w T5. That being said, it's a pretty dull coral and grows quickly enough that I'd be weary on where you place it. There's not much worse than taking up valuable real estate with a brown/bland coral. Here's the last pic of my colony before I got rid of it.

Your pic looks exactly like mine, and now mine is taking up prime real estate on my pillar. It's big, cutting large frags would be easy, but it's also encrusted on rock, so I don't think I can completely get rid of mine.

I dont think flow is a major factor as mine is tucked in a cave. But It does like high light, I am not sure why yours is cream - perhaps you need to feed your tank more and it could be starving. I have a piece in my frag tank and ave been doing lights out to get rid of algae and it darkens up due to lack of light. This coral seems popular on the frag sell list so no worries once you get it growing.
