First Post. =)

I've been consuming forums, watching youtube, talking to LFS for a few months and I finally decided to pull the trigger on my first reef tank. I've ordered a Red Sea 425XL (but hasn't arrived yet) so that's locked in, and my intent was to either start - or eventually transfer to - the Triton Method. One of the keys seems to be trying to get 10x turnover on the display tank volume (which is 800 gph on this tank). I hadn't read as much about head loss before I got started here, and I'm now concerned that there aren't any DC pumps in existence that will drive 800 gph through what is apparently 3/4" plumbing.

Thoughts?

The trick is using bigger pipe until you reach the outlet. Nothing says you must use only one size. Instead go up a size for the major runs to reduce restriction up to the very end of the run. My DC pump several generations old pushed about 1000 gph two 3/4” outlets on 1” plumbing. Current ones should be more than capable with the right sizes.
