So I‘m in the process of getting AC installed in the house for us obviously but also so I dont have to rely on a chiller in the summer. I live in France so I don’t need it all year but mostly from May to August.

I’ve had 3 contractors already and each of them had a different answer and way of doing things so I’m quite a bit frustrated. The last one told me we should put the A/C above the door in the picture which is pretty close to the tank but he said I can have the air blown to the right side and it will be fine with the tank. Obviously I’m not taking any risk with this and would like some input.

Will I be fine with the unit this close to the tank? Can I really set the airflow to go on the side or is it a gimmick?

The door is about 2 meters from the tank, I circled in red the part where the unit would be installed. It would be a 4Kw unit because the living room is pretty big with a shared kitchen.
thanks!

IMHO as long as your AIRCON can cool your room temperature to your preferred aquarium temperature, I don’t see why not. But I won’t have the AIRCON blowing at directly at the tank though...or else your evaporation will be high.

Okay so only problem would be the evap? Then I just need to figure out if I can really move the air flow to one side or if it’ll still blow on the tank. Thanks

Well if the room temp is 25C, I don’t think the tank will be far away from that, whether the air blows or not. Also you wouldn’t want the house smelling like a LFS. Just saying.

Split AC units generally intake air at the top of the unit and then blow cool air down basically straight towards where the tank is. The best place to put the unit would be somewhere central to the rooms you are trying to cool. It does not look like the doorway is where that is.

It is likely just easier for the contractor to install at the doorway as it will not require ladders etc to install, just drill a hole in the wall above the door.

Yes, optimize for cooling the space/room, and your tank will be taken care of. Nice Reefer 350 BTW. Cheers!

Most splits have vents which move the air side to side, I would check the unit but I have not seen an A/C in quite some time that did not have manual or automatic vents.

I’m just concerned about the vents efficiency. Would it be okay with them or would it still be closer to the tank? I understand the position isn’t the best but it’s hard to find another place that doesn’t involve having tubing all over the house whether outside or inside (and on a wooden house it will look bad).

@GabeM You have a point, there's a better place to put the unit but it's on the opposite side of where 3 others units would be in other rooms and the outside compressors so that means tubing all over the house. I've had 4 different contractors already, each of them with a different solution and I'm really lost. The best place would be directly above the tank but that's not possible.

They work fine, its pretty easy to steer the air out of an AC, you also have to consider the drainage tube.
