I've read pros and cons of drip acclamation - I'm confused if I should do it or not. The fish was shipped about 15hrs ago. If I drip acclamate will it be exposed to ammonia high enough to cause an issue? What's the alternative method?

Don't drip acclimate shipped fish. The rising pH can increase the toxicity of the ammonia in the shipped bag water. Best thing to do is float to temp match and then put the fish into new water. Match salinity first though.

I do 1/2 cup every 15 minutes for an hour.
haven't lost a fish yet short term.
Ok that sounds pretty easy.

So you're saying test incoming water, heat a new container w matching salinity then xfer directly into that?

I QT my fish. When they come in I float to match temp and check the salinity of the water they are in. Then I get my QT to match. I dump out about half the water in the bag and add tank water. Wait about 15 mins and then add fish to tank.

I do similar. I dump out all water in bag except for maybe a couple of inches above fish. Add in dripper. Do about a drip per second until SG in bag matches QT. Then transfer.

Thereabouts. Until the water in the bag=QT SG. Since fish are in usually lower SG (1.017-1.021) I bring the bag up to 1.025 which is what I keep my QT and DT at.

Biff where did fish come from pre qt

Drip acclimating fish is super unnecessary imo and potentially harmful because it increases exposure time to ammonia.
See, I'm confused. Half will say drip. Half will say sg match.

Fish is shipped in hypo (1.012) and dt is at 35ppt. So I can match the bucket to incoming water then I would drip up to dt, right?

Even if they have been QT. I would put them in QT just to observe and fatten them up for a couple of weeks.

Piggyback question; I’ve always netted my fish out of the acclimation bucket and into the tank....never had to do a huge chase and they don’t get netted long. Does anyone else add the fish to the qt differently? I haven’t come up with anything to avoid the net and not add the bag water.
