Getting a used tank

Hi all I just out a pvc piece for the back of the tank was wondering if I should seal the tank first then put it in or put in Then seal it . I have never done a pvc insert be for I have only drilled in over flow boxes . The tank had the overflow with the insert in it but didn’t really care for it

I really like the look of black silicon and was thinking of doing the inside sealing with black do you think it would look funny with the tank seams in clear and the in side with black ?
