I have a bunch of tiny Aiptasia peppered in my Chaeto. Is there a way to clear them out? I have a pretty big ball of the chaeto and my nitrates are in balance with my system. I really don’t want to throw it out and have to start with a tiny ball of clean stuff.

With no coral in there, you may get some peppermint shrimp to clean them up. My concern would be them getting into the display while being irritated.

Depending on what it's worth to you, I had great success with berghia nudis.

I have not had success with berghia, despite a heavy investment in them. Also, I don’t think they would live in a chaeto ball. They like to hide in the rock work till the lights go out.

I did try peppermints, but they didn’t stay on the moving chaeto ball. Also, I don’t think they could get inside the ball.

I was hoping someone had a idea for a dip. Something that would kill the aiptasia but not the algae.

I have never came across a dip to kill aiptasia. That would be a game changer ;Wideyed somebody should start the trials! ;Greedy

Throw it away. Aiptasia infestation is a tough nut to crack. You can beat them down and two months later they will come back.

If you are willing to lose the chaeto, you could try a quick dip in some mixed up kalk. A few seconds in there can melt away the aips and the chateo might be fine. You could try it with a small portion.

I would rinse it really well afterward in some tank water.

Being one who had a hard battle with Aiptasia and lost. I would shut off the fuge, if possible, and remove the whole ball and start fresh...

I’ll try a kalk dip and see what happens on a bit of it. The aiptasia in the display is under control with a relentless Copperband!

It’s when you tick them off that they will spread like crazy. Manually remove any of them from the system. And then hope for the Best meanwhile removing any new ones.

Cut your losses now throw it away. Once it starts running rampant and makes it to your display (if it hasn’t already) then the nightmare begins. These aren’t the aiptasia we use to deal with years ago, theses things have morphed into super pest!
