Getting an eel

I have a SF that has gone from 10 inches to 16-17 in a couple months. Favorite fish I've ever owned by far and everyone loves to feed him

They are amazing . Fed mine frozen seafood
It will be full grown before you know it .
they are blind and might need to be fed with tongs .
their bite hurts ... a lot

he was biting the heads off of all my small fish ( juv yellow belly tangs )
They're not totally blind, just mostly.

But they really hate wearing glasses since it makes them look like a nerd, and keep losing their contacts.

I have had multiple snowflakes over the years, as they grow small fish are definitely fair game to them. A wrasse, dotty or clownfish would easily fit down their throats and be consumed. Just like any critter individuals may vary but just because it is a pebble tooth doesn't mean it won't eat a fish.

I recommend taking a look at zebra moray eels. A 120g is a bit small for one but you can read about it and decide for yourself. They're a bigger pebbletooth but IMO they're safer with fish. Mine has ZERO predator instinct - both of my cleaner shrimp live in his hide with him.

If you had an eel biting the heads off of fish, that wasn't a snowflake eel. Snowflake eels have small, rounded teeth, and generally don't go after other fish. They certainly can't bite heads off.
Snowflakes are jerks dude. You musta had a model citizen if yours didn’t go after fish. I can’t stand them because they’ll eat literally anything in the tank with them when they get big.

After wanting an eel for years, I finally added a dwarf golden moray to my reef tank. Because they only max out at about a foot you'll likely be okay with even small fish. I have small goby as well as a mandarin, and the eel isn't much thicker than either. Hangs out in his cave system most of the time with head poking out. Quickly became my favorite in the tank.
