Getting back in the game

So it's been a while since I've posted or even been active after a pretty discouraging crash. I decided to get back into the hobby and after a month and change of research and whatnot I ended up getting a 75 gallon from Petco for just $100 figured that was a pretty good deal. It does hold water but from my last tank something must have happened in storage and one of the sides is completely cracked I was wondering if it would be a smart idea to cut that glass and reinforce the bottom seams of the aquarium to maybe make it a little bit more durable or is that just completely pointless?

The glass aquarium is pretty solid, lifespan in the 7 year zone, with some lasting a lifetime. It's all in the quality of the stand, has to be perfect and not sag over time, which slowly pulls the silicone seams apart, or if the sag is too great, the glass cracks. The rim is designed to sit on a solid base, without cushioning. A rimless tank needs to have a cushion base. I'm going to say your old tank was not on a solid foundation.

The tank crash was from some iron from a faulty pump getting in the water and me not catching it in time so all my corals died:/. the cracked side was it was in the basement empty and something fell on it sorta thing. Yeah I figured it would be a bit Overkill but I have all this extra glass and figured might as well put it to use but yes that is the next thing I'm working on is making the most level and true stand I can it's a normal rimmed aquarium

oh I see, if you're proficient with glass cutting, use it to build your sump or an in tank overflow corner, though taking off the silicone is a big job. Good luck.
