Hey, as title states I’m thinking about getting back into the hobby after 12 years.
I used to have a 90 gallon set up with roughly 200lbs of live rock. I still have all my equipment I might need a new protein skimmer. Any recommendations on a good quality skimmer?

My rock has been stored dry in my parent basement. I’ve been reading a good cleaning and they a good to be reused.

My question is more directed to the 90 gallon tank I had. I left it at my parents place. And it has been outside for a better part of 5 years under all kinds of conditions. My dad has been using it to collect rain water For I dunno how long. So it still hold water.

Any ideas if the tank is good to use for a fish only system. With a good cleaning?
Money’s not really an issue. I just don’t want to scrap a tank that could still be used and add to landfills.
Thanks guys. Kind of excited and nervous about the endeavour. I had roughly 10k in my last tank.

I took a long break and returned just like you. Biggest difference is fish aren’t as healthy as they were years ago. Don’t even think about not quarantining new fish. 72 days is a long time to wait. Learn from my mistake. Enjoy!

I like the reef octopus skimmer.

Welcome to the forum! Lots of great skimmers out there, Most people are going to insist the one they own is the best so I would research and read reviews to help you with your decision, I’m currently using a coralbox and it’s probably the best preforming skimmer I have ever owned. the tank should be ok as long as it wasn’t exposed to very extreme temperatures.

Thanks. I’m gonna pick up the tank and live rock tomorrow and give them a good cleaning. And hopefully set it up next month after I’m finished with the renovations.

Welcome back George and welcome to R2R!

Thanks everyone for the welcome messages.
So I just left my parents place unfortunately I’m gonna need a new skimmer. My old beast is missing the needle wheel pump and a bunch of parts, calcium reactor has vanished, I found all my old power heads
My circulation pump is missing
I’ll need new lights. I’m not gonna use the mh double ended lights I used to have
My deionized filter is missing though my ro and booster pump setup is still intact. I forgot I had an in-line tds meter!

I still have 2 full jugs of calcium reactor media, and I found a sealed bucket of instant ocean salt, it still looks good. 90 gallon tank looks like it just needs a good cleaning.
This may become a costly endeavour again!
