Hey, the names Rob and it has been quite some time since I had a tank up and going..... during the late 90's I had a tank that was up and stable for about 10 years then a big snowstorm hit us and lost power for like 10 days and I lost my whole tank.... I was very discouraged and walked away. Well over the last few years I found my self over and over looking at this or that and cruising sites and a few weeks back I found my self stumbling upon a 180 setup. It is used but I'm diving in feet first again. Back then the info was limited by the local pet stores and who ya knew but not there is so much info online its crazy, I love it.... So I'm here to maybe find an answer for my first question, the setup I acquired, the stand has no middle brace on the back side and for a 180 I found that odd as this thing weighs a crapload full if I calculated somewhat correct about 3k with water and rock.. give or take. It is made out of 2x12's but still, you guys think it needs a brace, I bet they didn't have to so they could move the sump in and out it as there is a brace in the front but not the back. I'm going with dual 40 breeders for sump(got to love the Petco's $1-gallon sale) as the stand is not real tall and can't get a 75 in it & there would still be room to move them in or out with a brace if needed. Should I add a rear middle support? I'm already going to doctor up the stand a bit, adding some trim, molding stain & new door hardware to make her look nice.

Thanks and I'm glad I found this place, tons of info......

What are the dimensions on the 180? Also, it would help if you post some pics of the stand.

Thanks for joining and sharing. There’s tons of info and help here, ask lots of questions.

A picture of the stand may help visualize. I have a 180. I did not do a center brace in the rear either.

you can start a build thread and start it with the stand question.:)

Welcome to reef2reef! The most helpful website this side of the North star. Post some pictures, because we love us some pictures and it will help with your stand question. We have plenty engineers on here and I am sure one will see it.

Glad to have you Rob

I have a 110 currently no middle brace on the front for the sole purpose to remove the sump. As long as the stand is built well in all other aspects I don't see an issue. Any pictures?
