Getting back into the hobby with a IM Lagoon 50

Hi all,

I've been lurking here for quite some time and after a 3 year break I'm getting back into the hobby. Had a 100 gallon tru-vu acrylic all in one setup that had to be taken down when we decided to move. Ended up giving it away along with almost all of my equipment which was pretty old. Starting over now with a IM 50 Lagoon, 40 pounds of Liferock, Current eFlux dc Return and circulation pumps (all 1050 gal models), Tunze Osmolator and some other misc stuff. Waiting on the arrival of my black matte aps stand so I can get this show on the road. Still need to get a light, most likely the AI Hydra 26 and a skimmer, leaning towards the Tunze 9004 dc version. Lots still to figure out. Will probably start a build thread in the All in One section to document progress and seek advice. Looking forward to interacting with everyone.

Thanks, I really like its dimensions and I have space and weight limitations, it's going on the 2nd floor.

Did you start a build yet?

Saw your post in another thread about the rocks.

I'm on a forced downgrade, think I'm going with the lagoon 50.

No build thread yet. Need to complete some work in the laundry room before I can get the tank wet. I ended up changing my mind on using the Stax rock as a substrate. It looked ok but the liferock pieces I have are just all too big for the lagoon 50. I couldn’t make them work and the Stax is so easy to work with. I’m going to use the Stax as my main rockwork and go with sand which I like the look of better. Also using the new IM Snapgrid to help raise the Stax and create caves and flow under the rockwork. I’m using rubble rock to make support columns. I think it’s going to turn out really cool once I finish working it all out.

What are you downsizing from? The Lagoon 50 has a great footprint but you jave to watch out on the size rocks you get or you risk creating a wall that will block flow, at least that’s what I thought I was doing.

I've had nuvo 40 in past and have a 2o nuvo frag. I love doing rock scapes, as you can see, but going in a different direction this time.

Wow, that really sucks. I’m so sorry that happened to you. I had actually seen your thread before but not lately. I loved your scape, you should definitely do something like that again in your 50. I used to have a 100 gallon setup when we had a house on a slab. The whole reason for my Lagoon 50 is that it’s on the 2nd floor of the new house and my wife was not onboard with a sump or a 100 gallon tank up there. I guess your experience is a good reminder of what can potentially happen. I’ll be looking forward to seeing what you do with your 50 and I will start a thread when mine is ready to go.
