Getting back into the hobby

Howdy everyone! I have had marine aquariums before, and now am considering setting up either my 90 tub, or my Oceanic Biocube as a mini reef.

Are wet/dry filters, or sumps still recommended? Will be needing recs for lighting, protein skimmer, pumps,etc. Is there anywhere to buy used equipment?

I plan a mixed reef in both tanks.

Welcome to R2R!!! I think you will find that many reefers have moved away from wet/dry filters and use various types of filtration within their sump. Remember that a sump is basically just a glass box to put stuff that you don't want in your main tank.

There are multiple selling forums here on R2R including this one focused on dry goods so you may be able to find some items there.

Hi there,
sumps/refugiums and live rock are the main way to go these days although theres always plenty of people still doing wet-dry/canister filters etc.
I think radions, kessils, t-5s are still topping out the lighting for the most part.
I like my eshoppes skimmer but I think reef octopus is one of the most highly rated brands
Pumps I love my danner Pond mags- quiet, simple, long lasting, not sure what others reccommend
Ato- cant go wrong with Tunze
