Hi all, In the past I had a 90 gallon fowlr tank and a 40 gallon reef tank that I broke down when I moved from Texas to Florida and ended up getting rid of everything. I've been out of the hobby for about 8 years now but my daughter has shown an interest in fish/tanks/corals lately so I'm thinking about jumping back in and setting up a small 20-30 gallon aio tank for her and I to work on together.

Here's a few pictures of my old tanks.

Welcome back to the hobby!!

That is great that your daughter is show interest and you can pass your knowledge on.

Thanks! Its a slippery slope and I feel like I'm already diving in head first buying equipment for a tank I don't even have yet. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I would advise against that.

Here is why... You are not sure what size tank you are going to get (I would suggest at minimum 55g) If you run around now, buying a ton of equipment and then get a tank somewhere that the equipment doesn't work with, you will end up replacing it all.

I seriously advise making a firm decision on what tank you are going to go with and THEN start getting equipment to build that tank.

An RODI would be a good starting piece to get now. You don't need a specific tank size to get that. Also a couple brute cans for your water station would be good and a strong pump for your SW mixing can. I wouldn't get any other equipment other than that at this point.

Just my $0.02

Welcome and welcome back to the hobby! Glad you joined. This is such a great family hobby, and I'm glad you are willing to help educate our next generation by sharing your experiences. You will have such fun together!!

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This might help you find people local to you in Orlando:

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:

Thanks! I'll check out both of those links.
