Getting close to SPS... time to start changing my bioload?

If your going to be adding SPS, I would be careful with GFO

I have been shying away from GFO. I am in the process of fixing my Phosphate issue. I just replaced my RODI. The water coming thru my new RODI test at .05 ppm, 0 TDS and has a backflush switch! So, now I am not adding phosphate unknowingly anymore... or silicates. The PhosGaurd has started working. I am down to .33 this morning

You can look at my 10G i just added 3 SPS frags.

It's only 2 months old.

Your tanks is like 20x more beautiful, and probably 15x more established.

I'm sure you will have 0 problem with this sps man. your husbandry is out the roof.

IME. SPS just want stability. Dirty or Clean, not as big as a deal as stability. Sudden shift from dirty to clean, or clean to dirty is what kills them overnight with RTN.

If you're using GFO, dont change that, etc etc.

Dont make any MAJOR changes. After adding the SPS. If there's somethign you want to change, change it now and then wait a week.

I think you could remove all the xenia, and be totally fine.

Also jsut realize if you take bioload out, reduce your feedings, that alone is going to make big differences and help offset any kind of swing.

This has been a journey. I had a lot to learn... still have a lot to learn! The things you just suggested are what is holding me back from buying any livestock yet. I know I don’t have to wait until everything is perfect... But, I didn’t even know I had a Phosphate problem until here very recently. Everytime I’ve patted myself on the back for creating “stability”... something else pops up... I learn.. I fix it. Like I discovered I am horrible at reading “color change” tests lol

Too bad you’re in Texas. I’d break off a couple frags from my colonies and just give them to you. If they died, figure out what went wrong, fix it, and I’d give you more. You are probably more ready than you think. Just don’t start with some crazy high end frags.

I have had montiporas and Acros and several other SPS in my tank since about 4 weeks after starting it. They are all doing fine and growing well. Don’t test much either, just keep salinity stable and change water weekly.

I have started taking a few of my corals out of my tank. They were both the biggest.... wanna take over my tank “offenders.” I am still scrapping off their ....propigations : )

Should I be using more carbon while doing this?

Depends on what kind of corals. Zoas and mushrooms, probably a good idea. Leather, star polyp or calcerous coral, probably not as necessary. But either way, it probably won’t hurt.
