The purple coralline algae always looks amazing in reef tanks but you typically get it from using live rock, for us that use dry rock how would you suggest we introduce it into our reefs?

It can come in on inverts, you can add a small piece of live rock that has coralline on it, or you can ask a lfs for some scrapings. It will not spontaneously generate.

It can come off snails and frags...Or you can ask the LFS or a buddy to scrape some off their tanks to give to you.

very easily a buddy could chip off some coralline from their quality lr, put it in a ninja food processor, slurry it up and mail it to ya! additionally, importing snails or calcareous items in any way can bring it, but already slushed up coralline sure is a good seed. ive done this before, grinded up some and mailed it out and we thought it seeded well in a tank that had only barren white live rock that was recently cycled.

Haha want to send me some? :P

My tank has been cycled since November. Used reef saver dry rock. I have corals with coralline algae on the bases and I have added some small live rocks with coralline algae, but I am not getting any growth on my own rocks. Any thoughts as to why? Does it take awhile and I need to be more patient.

Mine came on LR, but I have also gotten snails (specifically margaritas) and scarlet hermits completely covered in it. Never really see it on the blue legs for some reason. You can also get an old used frag plug with some. But once it starts growing, it won't stop. My tank has only been set up since January and my walls and dry rock have already been covered in it. Getting a coralline-eating urchin will also help, they only eat a small portion of what they scrape off so the rest flies away into the water column to cover more stuff.
