Im getting my first chalice coral tomorrow at a swap and Im looking for any and all care information.

Don't give it too much Light at first and move it more into the light slowly if you have MH or more than a few T5s. They are really hardy for a coral.

+1.... place it low to acclimate it, most chalices prefer low diffused/shaded light to color up nicely, especially if you have MH lighting, also low/moderate current..make sure to post a picture of it

Its a green bodied purple rimmed with white polyps, he also has a chunk of alien eyes that I might grab too depending on how it looks. Nothing special just wanting to get into them without dropping huge cash on the big namers.

dont move it!!!!! when i was moving mine all around it didnt like it and would retrack and show lots of skeleton! once i found it a home it has more then doubled in size in less then 3 months

I have never seemed to have good luck with chalice corals. I keep them on the sand bed and they seem to just bleach and recede after a few months. I never get any growth out of them. I'm totally jealous of the awesome chalice corals and growth i see on the site.

I've only recentyly started having much success, and in all cases, the chalice has been shaded somewhat.

Have you guys tried treating with interceptor?? Seems to help with recession

I think if you really want chalices you don't need as much light. I had one in my sps tank on the bottom. I was only running 4 of my 8 T5s and only one was a white bulb the chalice was starting to fade. I moved it to a tank with a 50/50 PC and 2 T5 actinics. It looked better in a matter of days and is still doing just fine. I do think although I have not tried that more actinic than white light may do a lot for the color of most chalices. In my frag tank that seems like I may never get finished I have 3 blue and one white. I'm thinking of changing the one white (ATI 12K) to a 50/50.

Thanks for posting this link. I had a very nice orange sherbert that one day just melted in half and turned white. A couple days later my tubs alien eye and tubs blue started the same thing. I had the sherbert for over a year and it was doing very well. The only thing that i changed in the system was i added 3 frags of aussie acans, one of which has completely bleached out on me for no reason. I have some interceptor handy and think I'm gonna do a dose.

Yep those aussie acans have the black bugs i have seen them. I remember when the aussie craze just started i did get a lot of my micros receeded but didn't get to save them. If i only knew about the interceptor then. Haven't had any problems for like 6 months now. But always good to have the knowledge incase it happens again. Make sure you take out your inverts.

Well I got three of them! Ill get some pics up when I can take a decent pic. My camera blows.
