Getting flow right?

I would say when all of your inhabitants are happy but it's not that simple. It comes down to what you have in your tank & where it's located. I have 2 MP40QDs set on Reefcrest mode so there is some fluctuation in the flow but I have 2 of the same corals in 2 different locations because one will draw up sitting about the same location as the other one. Ones on the bottom of the tank out in the open & the other like to sit about 8-10" from the bottom on a ledge. They are Torches. Same genus

It's mostly an art, but the best way to tell is if all your corals seem happy, have great polyp extension, and subtler things like the length of the stalks on your softies, how thick the branches of your SPS are, etc. It's helpful to check out videos of other reef tanks with similar powerheads/returns and compare the flow of their corals (similar helps) to yours. If you want, if you can post a steady video of your corals under daylight lights the community could put your mind at ease!
