Getting my FIRST BTA!! What do I need to know?

Hello!

I'm about to pull the trigger on a nice Rainbow BTA from a local reefer.
I was hoping to hear some tips, proper care and lighting/flow, do I need to quarantine?

Any info is good info. Thanks so much, all!

Have a mature tank that’s has stable parameters and really good lighting.
I have some bubble tips that love high flow and high light while others are the complete opposite. So be prepared to move coral around until it found its happy spot. If you plan on feeding it...wait until it’s completely acclimated and settled in. Less stress on the nem
No you don’t need to quarantine and it’s safe to put it right in the DT

You will know when something is off in the tank just by looking the nem.Great identifier. Unfortunately, I lost two due to a salinity led crash. Stability is high on the list. Rbta look great in a dt

Since you're getting it from another reefer, and assuming it's a clone, you don't need to QT it.

They like relatively high light and high flow, and will move until they find a suitable spot. If you have powerheads in your tank, definitely put covers on them (or temporarily turn them off at night), otherwise you might find the BTA shredded when you wake up in the morning.

Feed him, feed him, FEED HIM. I have a RBTA and my dad has a black widow. Both moderately bubbly at the lfs. I feed the RBTA chunks of frozen food every day and it’s developed beautiful bubbles (pics), while my dad has only broadcasted reefroids and it looks like a LTA. Feeding every day probably isn’t necessary but I’d recommend at least once or twice a week. Also, he will move around on his own until he finds a place he likes so be ready to watch him closely to make sure he’s not killing your corals with his tentacles while he finds a good place to live. If he lands in a spot you like, feeding him will help convince him that the spot is good and he’s more likely to stay there. Good luck!
