Today I plan on getting my first corals ever. Just something small like zoas or something. Is there anything I should know before I get them? Here is what I know:

1) Temp. acclimate
2) I will use Bayer to dip
3) I don't have coral glue yet so I will put in sand for now

Anything else really?

Make sure to rinse thoroughly in RODI after your Bayer dip. You can also use any super glue gel as long as it is cyanoacrylate based to mount on rocks.

As a first coral, I would recommend candy cane or some of the lower-end zoanthids. Goodluck!

EDIT: Although some corals like Xenia are easy to keep, but they eat up a ton of calcium in your tank, robbing other corals of nutrients, and can quickly become out of control.

I was told not to use freshwater when rinsing and use saltwater!

look CLOSELY for egg spirals. consider peroxide in the rinse water to kill algae. bayer does not kill algae.
Right there /\ is the line to remember. The H2O2 will also kill any cyanobacteria (minus spirulina)

What coral glue do you guys think I should buy from Amazon? $15 or less

This was the last ones I picked up from the dollar tree. Used it with no issues so far. I just try to use it out of the water then set whatever into the water. Since when I glue underwater it goes into the tube or something.

If it were me talking to myself 5months ago before going to the saltwater store I'd say

-cheap
-low light
-stuff you don't need to do a lot for
-make each purchase knowing stuff could die.
-write their names down and search everything about them when you get home
-get different colors
-And lastly.. whatever that leather coral was that died... don't buy that.. :p

Gl on your tank!

P.s. What kind of light do you have?

Sounds like good advice from everyone so far. I choose to dip in Coral RX Pro but that's just me, definitely have seen stuff come off of reputable LFS frags. When I started my tank I had Duncans, stunner chalice, low end zoas, some favias, cloves and acans. Still haven't made it to the point of knowing my tank well enough to introduce acros yet :/

And most of all, patience!
