I'm hoping this is the right forum - apologies if it isn't.

A few months back I bought some live rock from a tank breakdown, when I picked it up the guy had already packed it for me so I didn't see it in the tank (big mistake that I won't make again)- it has either come from a shocking tank or I suspect more likely had been out of water for a while and left damp.

I put it into my tank, left it over night, tested phosphate and ammonia the next day and both were off the scale (fortunately this was before adding any form of live stock), so I stripped it out, stripped the tank and went again with dry rock from my LFS which worked fine and the tank is thriving.

I still paid a reasonable amount for the original rock so am hoping to use it in another tank longer term. I've been soaking it in RO for the last 8 weeks or so changing the RO every 2-3 days, the ammonia has finally disappeared and the phos has dropped from around 1.75 to about .57 - has anyone got any suggestions to try and get the phos down faster or is it just a waiting game changing the water every couple of days? I ideally want it down at zero before I put it into my next project (I have the tank now, skimmer, lights etc I just need the poxy rock to hurry up lol!)

Hope someone can help - TIA.

You can read about using Lanthanum Chloride (PhosBuster for swimming pools) It will help draw out the P04.
Here is one thread of many
