So I'm only a few weeks away from adding my first fish to my new aqua reef 400 and I'm looking for some suggestions on what to get. I don't want to have to deal with aggressive fish and looking for ones that won't bother my coral as well when I finally add some.
Hoping to go for a sps dominated tank eventually.

I've got a couple in mind and my dream fish so far is a naoko's fairy wrasse.
My missus wants clownfish but isn't too keen on occelaris clowns and was thinking of getting some lightning maroon clowns instead (I know these can be agressive)

What would your suggestions be ?
Any and all advise is appreciated.

Start with one sixline and watch him kill every other fish you are gonna try to add from now on. lol.
Aside from kidding, I love blennies, you definitely should pick one of those. My bicolor blenny is the funniest fish I have ever owned.

What are the dimensions?
This will be an easier way to say what fish you could have :)

Oh sorry the dimensions are as follows 132cm L X 52cm D X 73 / 88cm High

I do like the idea of a blenny they seem like they are full of personality.

With a 105 gallon tank, you have a fair amount of options. I suggest a small Ctenochaetus or Zebrasoma tang as the centerpiece fish. You could also do a mimic or lavender tang. For other species of clownfish that are less aggressive than maroons, saddleback and skunk clownfish are somewhat mild-mannered. Any clownfish may nip your hand and chase other fish out of its territory, however. I'm not sure if you have access to Caribbean fish in AU, but if you do, a royal gramma or chalk basslet would be a good choice. I hope that this helps!

If you find one, get the naokoae in, I absolutely love mine and their personalities are just perfect. My first naokoae was my 5th fish to go into my tank but dang I wish I found one sooner. My second is currently in my nano as I’m trying to get him to a larger size but he still displays a nice personality.

I may be biased to wrasses but I’m ever so slightly more biased to gobies. If you find a group of Eviota or Trimma gobies, they could be a beautiful display when they’re out and established. I personally love Trimma tevegae and Eviota brahmi. These two species are… rare to say the least so if you have access to these genera I’d go for Trimma cana and Eviota nigriventris for unusual patterns among those genera.
Also, I personally think every tank needs one of these! Get yourself a Shrimp/Goby pair. These add so much character to your tank. My pairing is a rather common one, Cryptocentrus cinctus and Alpheus bellulus.

I personally wouldn’t go for a tang and instead recommend Foxface Rabbitfish. Ctenochaetus can be rather aggressive to similar bodied fish however they do seem to avoid most fish and stick to their own. The zebrasoma tangs… Nightmare fish that I think should only be kept in the largest of tanks where aggression can be limited. I speak from experience with several Zebrasomas, they all have very aggressive personalities until they’re in a large tank (8’+). Foxfaces come in a variety of colour with the two most common ones being yellow. If you get the magnificus, uspi or niger then they’re ever so slightly different (Well, magnificus has the most difference in which it is a fully white body with red dorsal and yellow anal spines). Being stung by these fish is rather rare, often it only happens in a sign of defence and you corner the fish. Thick gloves will stop the spine. In my 4’ build thread I have a story about having to get mine out of a net. Below is my Siganus magnificus.

Another must have wrasse for me is Cirrhilabrus lubbocki. The one pictured below is my Indonesian variant however I do have the Cebu variant as well. The Indonesian variant is the one that usually comes to mind when people think of Cirrhilabrus lubbocki. These guys remain small (2.5” for the Indonesian and 3”, possibly 3.5” for the Cebu) and peaceful.

Maroons can be very nasty. My maroons has a kill count of 2 and possible 3rd. They are a very beautiful fish just giving you a heads up.

A one spot foxface is a great addition. The wide variety of algeas they eat makes them a great fish.

Yellow corris wrasse for pest control.

+1 to a Halichoeres/Macropharyngodon species. The most common one for pest control is as mentioned above Halichoeres chrysus but other good ones include Halichoeres iridis, Halichoeres leucoxanthus, Halichoeres timorensis, Halichoeres biocellatus, Macropharyngodon negrosensis.

I'm thinking of staying clear of tangs for now but I have seen plenty of royal gramma at my local fish store.

I've been considering a fox face, specifically a magnificent but wouldn't it get too large for my tank?
They don’t swim too much but also all fish seem to only get to I believe 80% of their size in the wild when in captivity.

I have my foxface in my 4’x2’x18” tank. He doesn’t use too much of it compared to my Ctenochaetus binotatus.
