getting rid of aiptasia

so i just bought a zoa frag and put into my reef and noticed it had a small aiptasia on it, i immediatly took it out of the tank and have it in a bucket and am wondering what i can use to kill it, i would use lemon concentrate to inject it with but i have no needles and dont know of any way to get them. any ideas?

Burn it! I have a old soldering iron for aptasia. Works great

I got me a syringe and shot some with vinegar, if I do more then 3 or 4, I will do them right before a water change.

If you can use a razor and cut if off the plug then put some superglue over where it was, that should work fine.

Go to the pharmacy and get a syringe. Tell them its for your baby to put medicine in its mouth should be free. You won't be able to get a needle. But u dont need one. I use concentrated kalksweiser. To kill em

Just use some Aiptasia X from Red Sea. Stuff works great! I use it all the time in my coral QT to eliminate those pesky nems....

Another option which, if successful, is chronic and low maintenance: biological control. Some animals that will mow down aptasia include:

the nudibranch Berghia verrucicornis
some butterflyfish
peppermint shrimp

I got some peppermint shrimp.. they are hard workers, and have been eating the pests

If its just 1 your after I would supper glue it. Most of the time if there is 1 there is 10 more. It only takes 1 cell for a polyp to form. Good luck

My favorite "tool" for aiptasia is a matted filefish...they do wonders. I would take mine in and out of the DT to keep aiptasia at bay when I was pushing the limits of # of fish in my tank.

I had one that decimated a population of over 100 in a couple weeks. They are sooo easy to catch also when you need to remove them. Mine did take a chunk out of my acans when my aiptasia population was down to a couple behind the overflow.

I got my syringes and needles at Tractor Supply Company. If you have on nearby they have all sizes.
