Hello, a rock that I bought had this amazing looking encrusting sponge on it. It was cool for a while but now it gets everywhere and smothers stuff out. I got rid of the rocks with lots of it but it keeps popping up on other rocks. Anyone know how to kill this stuff? I don’t want to / can’t replace all my live rock...

I usually cut as much off as I can with a razor while sucking out the waste particles so it controls the spread. Then superglue frags on top of it to smother it out. :)

A toothbrush maybe? Seems like that would tear the sponge apart pretty good, and potentially remove it from the rock as well

I’ll try this. Do you ever have it creep out and try to grow on to the coral?

Have you tried something like Kalk Paste directly on top? Maybe that would burn and kill it?

Maybe aiptasia x or similar would kill it like it kills zoanthids? I squished mine with frags before I really had an issue. I believe angelfish also eat them?

I put some superglue in it for now. I’m going to try kalk paste / aiptasia x too. I’ll report back the results for others.
