I have read all threads on grounding probes, but no one seems to have this problem...I just got a new Deep Blue "Ground Control" probe...I plugged it in and touched the tip (it was wet)...it seemed to have shocked me...it was not in the tank, just wet...Is this how they're supposed to behave or do I have a problem?...appreciate some advice ASAP...Thanks...

Don't know where your info is...just "bump, bump"???
He likes the bump.

Yea thats is odd. If you have a volt meter, test the probe to the other slots in the outlet. also this will tell you if the outlet is wired correctly.

If you actually got bit, it means there is voltage in the probe and it went from you to ground or earth. OR it went FROM you to ground on the probe, that would mean you were touching something that was energized(tank?).

My thoughts too. Was it just a zap or could you repeat it? Could have just been static if just a zap. If it wasn't in the tank and just plugged into the wall there's no conduction path so it should be just static.

yup. unless its a hot ground reverse in the outlet. sounds silly but possible.

If you are getting shocked from your grounding probe that is telling me your service ground is not good enough or your secondary panel has the grounded and grounding conductors sharing the same bar. So now your service wants to use your aquarium as a grounding means. Call an electrical contractor

Ordered a multimeter, should be here this Thursday...than we'll know the story...

We plugged in the devise and saw that all was connected well...it must have been just static...put it in the tank and all is well...Thanks...:D

When people install grounding probes in thier tanks, are these (a) high resistance grounds with a light or something to indicate a ground fault? Or (b) are people just hard wiring the probe to a earth ground?

Are there people who hook thier tank equipment up to circuits that aren't protected by a gfci?

Cheers!

There should be no current on the grounded conductor of a receptacle. (Where the probe should hook up to)
How are you hooking up the probe?

thanks...as I said (above), I am using a new, titanium fish tank grounding probe...after testing the circuit, all was well...it must have been static...no current coming out of the ground...
