Makes me sick. Dont know what to do or what is causing this. Probably some kind of fungus i guess. Unfortunately the rocks or to big and are bases for rocks above them, cant remove them. Anyway just venting.

How are your other zoas and palys doing?

did you frag it recently? i lost several polyps after fragging my colony

Most are fine, but I have a colony of jokers about 50 polyps showing same signs. PPEs, perfect actually it is just the jokers that are showing the same signs. I had a very large colony of AOGs first do this. Actually you can see them to the right in the first pic.

Hmmmm could possibly have some pest....

Can you get some close ups of the jokers and then of the lunars?

actually if it's fungus, furan2 might speed up the deteoriation process

?How so? Furan 2 is made for fungus more then bactrial infection which it is used for aswell.....Curious why you would say that.....Let us know....Hey

Marcel I have some jokers if you need some at some point.....

i just had a huge fungus problem, lost many colonies, because i was slow to act. i did a dip with Lugol's Solution iodine, it stopped it instantly. many colonies i thought for sure were dead, have sprouted once again and are making a strong comeback (took about a week for them to wake up again).
LUGOLS SOLUTION, it works.

I should've been more clear, sorry about that James. Furan2 will indirectly affect the zoas that are infested with fungus. If you look at the compositions of Furan2, they list methylene blue, nitrofurazone, and furazolidone. Most of these are targeted for bacterial infection, furazolidone could be used used to target protozoan, but not indicative of fungus. Basically bacteria grows faster than fungus, keeping fungus in check and when they are dipped in Furan2, it gives the fungus a chance to grow back at a faster rate. Also dipping anything infected with fungus might not be as effective due to their slow metabolism, and the most effective way to treat would be to dose straight into a QT system. Furan2 is effective against zoapox because it is most likely bacterial, but when it's introduced towards a fungal infection, you are giving fungus a better chance to survive. HTH

Hey Marcel this may sound strange but the x-men I bought from you, have been doing the same thing. It started out great then just a few weeks ago they started to melt away. Get this my jokers are the same as yours. I guess it's their time to go. Everything else is doing great, got me scratching my head.

Good to know didn't think about it at that depth......Way to go!

I had the same problem w/ your x-mens marcel, they must be sensitive to one specific thing and they are gone. It seems(from pics) that the jokers are very similar to x-men except the rim is green instead of orange. Perhaps this is why they are also melting.

I have the same thing going in my main tank , My jerry gracia and one other zoos colony does the same thing. They close up for a few days looking like they are melting and poof , Opened the next day as if nothng happened.

Ive experiances this more with small frags of zoos. Once they seem to be fragged and moved to another tank this happens.

PPl say Zoas are a beginner coral, I would like to see a newie answer questions about zoa pox ,fungus and bacteria. I believe zoas have moved up to the advance coral subject ,since really no one has the answered to these mysteries , It sucks ,cuz i lost a tank full of rare zoas to zoa pox

It's funny because they used to be considered newbie corals untill recently all these reports on pox and fungus started appearing. I was discussing it with another hobbyist and we theorized wether it was related to a recent introduction of zoas from the Carribeans and if they are spreading something onto our zoanthids and palys that makes them more disease-prone. I can't remember people complaining about fungus infections on zoas several years ago, at least I didn't have a problem as such.

You might have something there Vince. I got some really nice blue Carribeans that did this almost right away. This was some time ago. I did give them a lugols dip before introduction but they still died. I will remove the Jokers and give them a lugols dip, see what happens. I just hope i have one surviving exmen to start over. It over a year for them to get that that many and a couple of weeks to wither away.

Im following this thread as I have lost about 8 colonies within a month and half period...and I still see some of my zoas melt....
