What's wrong is you're using a swingarm where the float tab gets worn out and gives majorly inaccurate readings. It usually develops a memory where you THINK you're at 1.024 but actually at 1.031

Ok...I think it was sarcasm. The real point of the post was the Eel in the hydrometer.
Eel in hydrometer = qwerky funny
Using a hydrometer as a valid measuring tool = wrong equip imo

I think the Eel skin is reducing the interaction with the calcium and decreasing alkalinity and producing a chemical reaction with the glass.

For the record, this is hanging in my tank because my kids gave it to me. Im a stickler for precision and making decisions with accuracy, and I have the appropriate instruments to do so.

Omg that'sgreat I never saw an eel house like that before, I searched for suction cup eel viewer/cave and couldn't find it anywhere where did you get one of those!!!
