Getting wave maker. Reduce return pump flow?

Right now my 2 pumps are at max setting. They blow the fish around pretty good. Once I put my wave maker in can I reduce the return pump flow to a more reasonable flow so the fish can have a more natural swimming experience or do I need to keep them on max? Right now my small clown stay in a small area mainly away from the inlet because it blows them around too much.

You don't have to wait for powerheads to turn down the flow if it's causing issues for the live stock

IMO the return pump should be a minimal part of the flow in the tank. It only has to be high enough to keep enough water going into any filtration, and keep the display heated properly if the heater is in the sump.
From the sounds of things I'd turn the return pump down.

i tried turning the pumps down. Still too much flow. would this work inline on the output tube? This wouldn't make more pressure would it? FYI i have a sicce pump

How big is the pump? And what size tank?
