So here I am less than a week deep into my JBJ 20, no fish, no coral and I'm already eyeballing the Red Sea Reefer 170. Is this normal? Please tell me there's a cure for this.

Just go for the 250 or larger and be “done” with it. I had an IM Nuvo 20 for a year and 6mo in wanted to go bigger. I had a 100g, 75g, and 60g prior, so like what the heck was I even thinking getting a 20 !? I just landed a rsr 250 yesterday that I will hopefully be satisfied with for a while.

You'll probably never stop now, lol. Go ahead and get a minimum of a 6 footer to open up your options and it takes some time to fill up that real estate. My 180 is already precariously close to running out of coral space......

Bought a RedSea Max32g then a 40 breeder, sold both and moved to a 120 then added a drag tank and another bio cube and now have a 220. This one has been up for almost a year and I am currently planning on how to get an 8 or 10’ tank in the basement, I always wanted a walk out, so perhaps that is the way to have both.

You're aiming too low with the 170. Try the S-1000. That might quell the urge to upgrade to the Georgia Aquarium for a month.
