I read in the pinned post on the basics of setting up an aquarium that a GFCI outlet is ideal but a GFCI surge protector is acceptable. Does that mean a GFCI power strip or can I plug a non-GFCI power strip into a single GFCI plug like this one?

As long as somewhere between the equipment and the house breaker there's GFCI protection it will function correctly.

Be aware though that GFCI protection can age rapidly depending on power quality, surges, etc. and will need frequent testing to verify it's still working. If the plug is behind your stand and you can't reach it to test, then it's limited in protection.

If needing GFCI and don't want to use outlet, I'd recommend inline so any power strip would work.

You *should* be good to go using a power strip plugged into the gfci you linked. Everything downstream from the gfci is protected.

no prob make sure you have a ground probe also

You could always install or have an electrician install a gfci breaker in the panel providing that the circuit is not sharing a neutral conductor with another circuit on the opposite phase. Then you would need a double pole gfci breaker... but then you are talking close to 100.00 bucks just for the double pole breaker.
