GFO and carbon in the same reactor?

has anyone done this? i'm trying to limit the amount of plugs i have underneath the tank and was thinking of adding carbon to the same reactor as the gfo....any thoughts?

I don't think it would tumble right. I remember there being another issue with it but I can't remember what.
 
I do it with a brs and a maxi jet 900. Works fine.
 
Its not optimal since GFO and carbon have different useful lives and different flow requirements.
I have two Phosban reactors fed by the same MJ 400 or MJ 600 powerhead via a tee split to the two reactors each with its own ball valve to adjust flow and to isolate it for maintenance and media changes.
 
i too have heard of this, putting them both together, and I believe even some brands are sold both together in the same package, but I agree with the above statements about them needing different conditions, ... so I too am on the fence about all this

lets hear more opinions please
 
I have read a few threads about this over the years and the consensus is expressed by AZ above. I have never read of anything "bad" happening or any reason that it can't be done but in the long run you will spend more money because you end up throwing media out that still has life in it. And yes, some products package them together...I am pretty sure Chemi-pure elite is one of them.?
 
Looks like a second reactor it is but i will probably be using one pump. thanks for all the insight, love this site.
