About a week ago I noticed that I was having a bloom of diatoms on the sand. I thought that was odd because I haven't changed much. I have slowly stepped up the lighting, but this has happened at once. I realized that it was clouding the water and then concluded that it was GFO fines. I have a dual reactor from BRS and I have had the flow set to have the GFO tumble at the top of the reactor. When I first got the unit I noticed that I had the flow to high because it the fines would show up and my water wasn't clear. I have had it for 5-6 months and it hasn't happened again until now. I have done a water change and have been running the skimmer very wet. It's been pulling one cup a day of a light orangeish-tan skimmate.
My question is could their be any adverse effects on the tank by having these fines in it?
