GFO for a nano reef

After checking BRS calculator for gfo amount for 13 gallon (1tbsp) is it necessary to use a gfo reactor,
will it be effective or even more important is that the proper amount?

It's not needed if you don't have high Po4.
The better the flow over the media the more it takes out of the water.
So no it does not have to tumble in a reactor.

I had a small bag of chemipure elite in my nano. That has Carbon/GFO in it. https://www.amazon.com/Boyd-Enterpr...id=1491099086&sr=8-1&keywords=chemipure+elite Cleaned stuff really well. I actually removed it because I was wondering if the carbon would remove beneficial nuetrients as well as waste. In my planted freshwater tank I saw slowed growth after running carbon.

Reading has moved under .2 finally I have 1 fish small dottyback live sand live rock (8 good size pieces) I replaced the sponge filter with a home made media basket (eggcrate)
In the basket Chemi Pure Blue, Matrix Carbon and Purigen. Feeding habits are 1 a day shaved piece off frozen block (mysis shrimp) Lights are daylight for 4 hours and actinic for 2
Very little algae
