I'm new to this hobby what is it when people are taking about GFO and what does it do for my tank ????

Granular Ferric Oxide - It's a media used to remove/reduce phosphates. Usually tumbled in a reactor.

GFO is granular ferric oxide. It's basically pieces of processed rust that you can put in you filtration system, I use a reactor which I think is most common, and it helps to filter out phosphates from your water. High phosphates can lead to algae production. The short and sweet explanation.
