How many of you, runs GFO just to be safe? You don't really have a problem, but runs it just be sure, a rise in phosphate doesn't happen.

I wouldn't run it unless you have specific need. not only o corals need some phosphate, but stripping phosphate down to zero will likely lead to dinos.

I run it, but probably at an amount that's less than required for my tank size (maybe 50-60%). The lowest my phosphates have been (ever) is around 0.025 - they're usually a lot higher, ie: the 0.05 range.

GFO is pretty effective stuff. I wouldn't run it without knowing my phosphate levels or risk bottoming out.

I run rowaphos 24/7 365 in both my systems and if you can keep phosphate locked down very low at less than 0.03 you will avoid many of the problems we constantly read about

Yeah running gfo without knowing levels your gonna have a bad time. 0 phosphate is not good.

I test my tank twice a week, I do a WC once a week. I mix 2 tablespoons mixed in with my carbon changed out bi weekly. If I'm above .20 I will mix in some GFO to bring it back to down to around .10.

This is way less then recommended for my system(85G), and I only use it when above .20. Through trial and error, I have found that just 2 tablespoons will bring .1ppm of phosphate out of my tank in a manner of a couple days.
