GFO or Carbon?

Shallow mind here (pun intended)...but let me get this right. You can put both the carbon and the gfo in one reactor? I know they are for two seperate things, but for those of us planning on FOWLR is a mix the right choice? I know its not a cheap hobby, but the wife lets me play whth a "budget"

GFO and carbon can technically be run together. The reason why this is tricky is because on one hand you WANT GFO to tumble. This keeps it active and prevents it from solidifying into one block. On the other hand, you DONT want carbon to tumble because it's a softer substance than GFO is and will deteriorate into dust faster. ROX .8 is harder material of GFO and is better suited for the mix. I, personally, am running a dual reactor with GFO in one container and carbon in the other. Choosing between the two is difficult because they treat different things. GFO would be a phosphate deal whereas carbon is used for removing waste and chemicals.

I wouldn't run them together, as you can run carbon flat out in a filter without flow restrictions, but GFO needs to be tumbled slowly in a reactor. On the other hand there is Chemipure Elite, which has both in it and can be run in a filter without flow restrictions.

run carbon in a bag. run your gfo in your reactor. done.

Thats what I thought about doin, gfo to the reactor and carbon by bag.
