I use a BRS retractor and GFO from Dr Foster and Smith.

It seems even if there is a small tumble over time my sponges on my carbon side and the carbon itself gets cacked with GFO red powder.

My filter shock turns a little red to.

Is it the brand im using? What should I do? Can this power do harm to the tank over time?

Thanks

Ate you rinsing the GFO well before putting it in the reactor?

Ya, it seems that it happens over time

My guess its the brand. I use the high capacity GFO from BRS its pretty clean and rinses pretty quick. Never had an issue with it.

I have also used BRS regular brand GFO and its real dusty. Takes longer to pre rinse and may leach a bit of that stuff if you dont rinse thoroughly.
