Any danger to running more GFO in a reactor than is recommended? Will doing so get phosphates down faster?

It will take it down faster, and the risk is you may take it down too far or too fast, which can stress corals.

Are you monitoring phosphate levels?

I am not monitoring phosphates, generally have done so by paying careful attention to algae growth. I started to get some cyano on my liverock so I increased the amount of GFO in attempt to combat it which is working but don't want to harm my corals.

Imo you should get a Hanna PO4 tester so you can judge the amount of GFO more accurately

If not monitoring phosphate (I don't either, fwiw), I'd go slow in increasing GFO. People do have issues with excessive GFO.
